Antiquorum presents its upcoming summer auction in Hong Kong

Geneva, 10 June, 2009 – Antiquorum, the world’s leading watch auctioneer, is pleased to announce its upcoming “Important Collector’s Wristwatches, Pocket Watches and Clocks” sale on June 27th, 2009 at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong. The auction, featuring 479 lots, brings together a remarkable selection of the finest timepieces by world-renowned watchmakers.

Highlights of this summer auction include two very rare Patek Philippe watches respectively Ref. 3974, an 18K yellow gold minute-repeating gentleman’s wristwatch with black dial, perpetual calendar, leap year indications and moon phases, estimated between 2,000,000 and 2,700,000 HKD (300,000 and 400,000 Sfr), as well as a Ref. 3450, an 18K yellow gold wristwatch, made in 1982, with perpetual calendar, moon phases and a red dot for the leap year indication, estimated between 1,350,000 and 1,700,000 HKD (200,000 and 250,000 Sfr).

Timepieces from Twentieth Century Icons to be Auctioned in Antiquorum’s June Sale

May 6, 2009 – Antiquorum’s summer sale of “ Important Collectors’ Wristwatches Pocket Watch & Clocks” on June 11th promises to be an exciting auction as it will include timepieces from twentieth century icons President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Steve McQueen in addition to an exceptional selection of wristwatches from every major brand. The auction will be held at Antiquorum’s US headquarters on Madison Avenue. Clients will have the opportunity to view these exquisite, and in some cases unique, timepieces all over the world including Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and New York.

Antiquorum showed “pre-crisis” figures

The two-day auctions of watches of specialized Antiquorum house held on November 15 and 16 in Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva showed unexpected high results. The general results of the auctions which featured different clock mechanisms, accessories and instruments reached impressive CHF 15 326 100. According to statistics the total result from sale of watches made 136% of the estimated cost.

A set of two enamel pocket watches made in about 1815 in Great Britain and presented by King George III to Emperor of China Jiāqing (1796−1820) showed the highest result. Both chronometres had identical mechanisms by celebrated watch-maker Jean-Abraham Lissignol (1749−1819). Gold cases are decorated with pearls and covered with excellent enamel. The lot was sold for
CHF 2 608 000. Extremely rare Patek Philippe watch dated to 1950 was sold for CHF 1 376 000 (estimate: CHF 400 000-600 000). The watch is made of pink gold and supplied with a wide set of options including the indicator of phases of the moon, a stop watch and perpetual calendar.
