An exhibition “Private collections and personal trophies” will take place in the Marble hall of the all-Russian state library of foreign literature of M.I.Rudomino from the 28th of May to the 4th of June 2002.

Cultural “trophies” of the Second World war is not only paintings and books from the depots of state museums and library funds. Numerous values appeared to be in the private possessions after the war. Masterpieces and trinkets, carried out of large collections and picked in the street, saved or stolen, they are all the essential part of the cultural legacy of mankind and must be as well-known as the “Shliman’s gold”. However there was almost no information about them so far. By this exhibition, held under the social welfare of the Ministry of culture of RF, we unfold yet another out-of-the-way page of our history, long for the open and measured dialogue with the world community, to elaboration of common principles in solution of complex problems of moved cultural values. Russian exhibition and the seminar, having already attracted worldwide interest, will become an important step on the way to elaboration of common ways to solve the pending problems, will allow to return the works that are considered lost forever to the world cultural space. By exhibiting works of art from the private collections, imported from Europe by separate soliders, the participants of the exhibition demonstrate the willingness to the sensible and measured dialogue, based on the existing norms of right. The exhibition takes place in the framework of the international seminar “Private right and the problems of restitution of cultural values” (27-28 of May) with participation of the largest Russian and foreign jurists.
