The Third antique salon in Saint-Petersburg

From 21 to 26 of May 2002 Moscow company “Expo-park. Exhibition projects” held the Third antique salon in Saint-Petersburg. As before, its exposition took place in the Marble hall of Russian ethnographic museum.

From this year the Salon in Petersburg can be considered annual, although originally it was planned as a biennial event. In the beginning of June 2003 the company plans to hold the IV Antique salon, devoted to the tricentenary of Saint-Petersburg.

57 Icons Of The XIX Century Are Stolen From A Temple In Vladimir Area.

57 icons of the XIX century are stolen from the Svyato-Pokrovskiy temple of the village Naguevo of the Vladimir area. According to preliminary appraisal, the damage equals 150 thousand dollars. According to the Wednesday report of RIA “Novosti” in the Department of Inner Affairs of Vladimir area, four men attacked the security, which was residing in the twostoried building on the territory of the temple. The robbers beat up and tied the guards, after which they kicked in the door of the temple. Having loaded the icons into a car, the raiders disappeared. From the received drubbing two guards were placed into the hospital of Vyazniki city. One of them died at the age of 27 in the crisis care centre. At present, operative workers of Vyazniki Department of Inner Affairs are carrying out operative-searching measures.

Three Paintings Of The XIX Century And A Dirk Disappeared From Museum In Saint-Petersburg

Three paintings of the XIX century and a dirk are stolen from the Naval bulk of the Peter the Great museum in Saint-Petersburg. This is reported by the chief operative duty officer of Vasileostrovskiy District Department of Inner Affairs Dmitriy Frolov. The trophies of the unknown thieves became painting of famous marinist Alexey Bogolyubov “Sevastopol”, canvas of painter Krugovihin “Revel” (1842), “Kronschdadt” (1844) and the dirk. The paintings were stolen without frames. The robbery was noticed about 18:00 Moscow time. At present, according to RIA “Novosti”, experts of military prosecutions department are working at the scene of crime.

Expertise Of The Famous Masterpiece Of Kazimir Malevich, Which Was Earlier The Property Of "Incombank" Is Finished

A full expertise of “The black square” was carried out: the specialists have studied all the materials of the painting – canvas, priming and paints. The inscription was inspected on the back of the canvas – “Suprematism. Black square number 2. Year 1913. K.Malevich.” Penmanship and the manner of paint-stroking were compared to the other works of Malevich. The expertise allowed the specialists to conclude: “there are no disparities found in technique, material, penmanship by the time and authorship of the painting”. According to the director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovskiy, the painting will be presented at the temporary exhibition in the beginning of June, and then will take its place in the permanent exposition.

Law "About Objects Of Cultural Legacy (Memorials Of History And Culture) Of The Peoples Of RF" Under Edition Of Conciliation Committee Approved By State Duma

This Friday State Duma has considered again and accepted with one voice the law “About objects of cultural legacy (memorials of history and culture) of the peoples of RF”. This law was first approved by State Duma on the 5th of July last year, but then rejected by the Federation Council, after which a Conciliation Committee was created of representatives of two chambers of the parliament.
According to the chairman of the Duma culture committee, copresident of the Conciliation Committee Nikolay Gubenko, who presented the law at the plenary session this Friday, the document is intended to implement the constitutional right of people to access the cultural values and the constitutional responsibility of people to preserve the historical and cultural legacy, keep memorials of history and culture. Realization of the right of peoples and ethnic collectivities of Russian Federation to preserve and develop their cultural and national originality, protection, restoration and preservation of historical-cultural environment, protection and preservation of the sources of information about cultural origins and development is also concerned.
The subjects of the law control are relationships which emerge in the sphere of preservation, usage and popularization of objects of cultural legacy (memorials of history and culture) of the peoples of RF; peculiarities of possession, usage and management of objects of cultural legacy of the peoples of RF as a special type of immovable property; order of organization and management of a single state register of objects of cultural legacy of the peoples of RF, and also general principles of state security of the objects of cultural legacy of the peoples of RF.

Private Collections And Personal Trophies

An exhibition “Private collections and personal trophies” will take place in the Marble hall of the all-Russian state library of foreign literature of M.I.Rudomino from the 28th of May to the 4th of June 2002.
This unique action, held with the support of the Ministry of culture of RF, is organized by the International informational-documentary centre of the moved cultural values control, together with the Exhibition Centre of ASLFL with participation of State museum-exhibition centre ROSIZO of the Ministry of Culture of RF, together with the antique association “Helos” and “Russian Antiquary Guild”. Cultural “trophies” of the Second World war is not only paintings and books from the depots of state museums and library funds. Numerous values appeared to be in the private possessions after the war. Masterpieces and trinkets, carried out of large collections and picked in the street, saved or stolen, they are all the essential part of the cultural legacy of mankind and must be as well-known as the “Shliman’s gold”. However there was almost no information about them so far. By this exhibition, held under the social welfare of the Ministry of culture of RF, we unfold yet another out-of-the-way page of our history, long for the open and measured dialogue with the world community, to elaboration of common principles in solution of complex problems of moved cultural values. Russian exhibition and the seminar, having already attracted worldwide interest, will become an important step on the way to elaboration of common ways to solve the pending problems, will allow to return the works that are considered lost forever to the world cultural space. By exhibiting works of art from the private collections, imported from Europe by separate soliders, the participants of the exhibition demonstrate the willingness to the sensible and measured dialogue, based on the existing norms of right. The exhibition takes place in the framework of the international seminar “Private right and the problems of restitution of cultural values” (27-28 of May) with participation of the largest Russian and foreign jurists.
The exhibition opens on the 27th of May at 5 pm.

Exhibition In The History Museum Devoted To The Memory Of Peter Shukin

Exhibition “Collector of Russian antiquities” was opened this Friday in the State History museum (SHM). It is devoted to the famous collector and patron of arts Peter Shukin and opens the cycle “Museum’s true friend”.
Shukin is the son of one of the largest Moscow trade-industrial families. He started his collection in 1870-ies in Lion, having collected a library of French books, a collection of engravings and photographies. Since the beginning of 1890-ies memorials of ancient Russian household and art became the main object of his attention. In 1891 Peter Shukin bought a large ground with a wooden building in Malie Gruzini for construction of the building of the museum of “Russian antiquities”, which he gifted to the History museum in 1905.
It is impossible to demonstrate all the diversity of Shukin’s collections at the exhibition. Unique items, characterizing their different sections are selected for exhibiting. Russian silver of the XVI-XIX centuries, cold and firearms, Russian, Moldavian, Persian and Armenian books are presented. Artworks of glass and ceramics, porcelain of the XVIII-XIX centuries in particular were of a special interest to Shukin. The true masterpieces of this collection are also presented in the exposition, as well as the wonderful samples from the carved bone collection. Spectators will also see Eastern, West-European and Russian clothes, samples of golden knitting, wraps and shawls, works of Russian pewter masters of the XVII-XVIII centuries, Ustyug enamel with onlays, wooden dishes, caskets decorated with cutting and painting of the XVI-XIX centuries.

Germany Returns The Canvas From Tzarskoe Selo, Petergof And Gatchina

Seven paintings, exported from the USSR in the years of the Second World war are returned to Russia by Germany. These are the canvas of the masters of the XVII-XIX centuries, which were stolen from Gatchina, Petergof and Tzarskoe Selo. The works of art were discovered during the course of a special action in the beginning of the 90-ies in a series of private collections in Berlin and Darmschtadt. Among them are the portraits of Peter III (1760), Catherine II (1790), Peter I (XIX century), Alexander I, Great princess Maria Pavlovna (the second half of the XIX century).

A Mound Near Novorossiysk Digged Out By "Black Archeologists"

Traces of barbaric destruction of the archeological memorial – an ancient burial mound were discovered not far from the Raevskaya village, near Novorossiysk. Experts of the committee of cultural and architectural memorial preservation found out, that from December 2001 to March 2002 the unknown criminals had been partially digging the mound and reached the grave itself. The “Black Archeologists” were seeking precious adornments, arms. The remnants of bones and shattered skulls were scattered near the pits. A criminal case was started in the AMD of Primorskiy region of Novorossiysk city by the fact of damaging the history-cultural values. According to yuga.ru it is the second criminal case, related to the looting of ancient burial places.
