Applicants invited for TEFAF Showcase 2010

Helvoirt, June 2009 – Younger dealers are again being invited to apply for TEFAF Showcase 2010, one of the sections of TEFAF Maastricht, the world’s most influential art and antiques fair. The next edition of TEFAF will take place from 12-21 March 2010 in the MECC (Maastricht Exhibition and Congress Centre) in the south of the Netherlands.

TEFAF Showcase was started two years ago to give recently established galleries the opportunity to participate in TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair) on a strictly one-off basis and to gain experience of being part of a major international fine art event. The pre-eminence of TEFAF among international art fairs has led to a long waiting list for potential exhibitors and TEFAF Showcase enables some of those keen to take part to do so for one year. It also introduces visitors to the Fair to some of the most interesting emerging galleries from around the world.

Applications must be submitted by 1 October 2009 at the latest and must be made online at (go to Showcase). Applications sent by post or fax will not be accepted. An international committee composed of TEFAF members and independent art specialists will select seven participants for TEFAF Showcase in 2010.

The conditions for applicants are:
– The gallery or dealer should be operating at a high level in their field.
– The gallery or dealer should have international standing.
– The gallery or dealer must have been in business for at least three but no more than ten years.

All works of art to be exhibited will be pre-vetted.

TEFAF Showcase 2009
The seven dealers who were selected to take part in TEFAF Showcase 2009 found the experience exciting and rewarding.

Alastair Crawford from New York, who deals in Georg Jensen silver and jewellery, says: “I had a wonderful experience at TEFAF. I sold something every day and met an unrivalled number of clients, including existing, new and potential ones, from all over the world. I made 85% of my sales to new clients and I am still following up on enquiries from the Fair and making sales.”

Indian and Islamic art specialist Alexis Renard from Paris is equally enthusiastic. “TEFAF Showcase has been a very positive experience,” he says. “It was a good opportunity to see my existing clients and to meet institutions and collectors I had not previously known. It is a unique fair.”

The Piacenti Art Gallery from Florence, which deals in Old Master paintings and sculptures, were grateful to have had “…the great opportunity given to us this year at TEFAF. It has been an unbelievably fascinating and enriching experience and we are very pleased with the outcome of the Fair.”

Art as an asset
TEFAF shares its view of art as an asset with its principal sponsor, AXA Art. Their partnership provides art collectors with unique expertise covering the full range of risk prevention, conservation, recovery and restoration, to enable them to maintain their collections in the best possible condition.
