Ridgeland to host fine arts festival at renaissance at Colony park

The Ridgeland Tourism Commission (RTC) will host its first Renaissance Fine Arts Festival Saturday, May 30 (10 a.m. – 8 p.m.) and Sunday, May 31 (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.) at Renaissance at Colony Park. The event will be an open air juried art exhibition featuring 90 of the nation’s finest artists.

H.C. Porter of Vicksburg, whose artwork, “Backyards and Beyond: Mississippians and Their Stories,” was recently on display at the Mississippi Art Center, will serve as the director of art for the festival.

Bob McFarland of McFarland Productions will serve as the festival director. McFarland and Porter have worked closely together over the last few months to gather artists from 22 states such as Indiana, Illinois, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Missouri, and California.

“In addition to the wide variety of art available for purchase, there will be music to entertain our guests and a variety of dining options,” says McFarland. “We plan to have hands-on activities for children as well.”

The staff of RTC decided to produce this festival to further create awareness of Ridgeland as an artists’ haven. With its many galleries, including the Mississippi Craft Center, Southern Breeze Art Gallery, Jackson Street Gallery and the soon to come Viking Cooking School, the area offers a wide variety of art for residents and visitors to enjoy.

“We are so excited to be able to present a festival of this caliber to Ridgeland and Central Mississippi,” said Rochelle Hicks, deputy director of the RTC. “We are thrilled to be able to showcase Ridgeland and to provide an opportunity for talented artists from around the nation to share their work.”

Admission to the Renaissance Fine Arts Festival is free, and the event is open to the public. For a schedule of events or more information, please contact the RTC office at 800-468-6078
