Funds fell into decay

Michael Piotrovsky, the Director of the State Hermitage, the president of the Association of Museums of Russia paid attention to the problems of restoration and storage of cultural values. Piotrovsky acting at session of the governmental commission which is responsible for the control over a situation of museum funds noticed that exhibits of the majority of museums of the country require restoration or restoration preventive measures.

According to Piotrovsky more than 15 % of cultural values kept in the Russian state funds require complex scientific restoration. At the same time only each tenth museum has an opportunity to make these works in due time and almost 80 % of museums of Russia are in buildings which do not meet the requirements of storage and expositions.

To solve this problem Piotrovsky offered a concept of the program on maintenance of safety of museum fund in Russia. The project provides the erection of a complex specially equipped for fund storages and also the introduction of a new system of the automatic registration of museum items.

The program of rehabilitation of museum funds is for 11 years. Except for the introduction of innovative technologies it provides such measures as the increase in the salary of museum stuff and the improvement of professional skill of restorers. The project budget makes about 100 billion roubles, 80 % of which will be taken from the federal budget.
