Modern Art to be sold out in the Parisian hotel

Paris – On December 9, Artcurial auction house in France will hold the auction Modern Art. The auctions which will be held in Marcel Dassault hotel are to represent 465 works by the leading artists of the first half of the 20th century.

Graphic work Arletta by Kes van Dongen (1877−1968) is estimated at high €60 000–80 000. The portrait dated to 1931 is executed in ink, water colour and gouache. Below, to the right there is a date and the signature of the artist. This simple and at the same time very expressive female portrait relates to the late period of creativity of Kes van Dongen when the artist deviated from Fauvism to aesthetics of Art Deco.

The picture of Kes van Dongen’s contemporary, outstanding master of Surrealism Andre Masson (1896−1987) – The Sower I is estimated at €40 000–50 000. The work is dated to 1931. Masson made his bright expressive image in combination of stylistic characteristics of Cubism, Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism which were found in his work from the early 1930s.

The landscape Moulin De Sannois Sous La Neige by Morris Utrillo (1883−1955) will be put up for sales estimated at €30 000–40 000. The work is executed in gouache and is dated to 1938. The lyrical city landscapes which made the artist famous are very popular at the antiquarian market.

Along with the European masters Artcurial will present a series of works of Russian artists. Among them is Konstantin Ivanovich Gorbatov’s picture (1876−1945) The View of Pskov. The landscape is estimated at €30 000-40 000 and is among the five of top lots of the auction. The second work by the artist is Russian Church in Snow (1919). It will be put up for the auctions estimated at €12 000–15 000. Zinaida Serebryakova’s canvas (1884−1967) the Portrait of Felisen Kakan is another interesting lot. The lot is estimated at €8000–12 000.

A Group of People around a Singer by French avant-gardist Andre Lhote (1885−1962) dated to 1908 is estimated at €30 000–40 000.
