Ukraine to see Hirst

The Ukrainian steel magnate Victor Pinchuk who according to ArtNews magazine is considered one of the most influential collectors in the world announced that he took part at Sotheby’s auction The Beautiful Inside my Head Forever where he purchased Damien Hirst’s works. Names and number of works have not been revealed yet. However all of them will be presented in the expositions of PinchukArtCentre gallery in spring next year.

The Victor Pinchuk exhibition centre located in Kiev is considered the largest one in the Eastern Europe. The fund’s collection comprises works of classics of modernism and contemporary artists including Jeff Koons, Andreas Gursky and Demien Hirst.

“Victor Pinchuk influenced the development of art market greatly, − Simon de Pury, the owner of Phillips de Pury auction house comments. – Since the moment he had opened his exhibition centre, many people in Russia and Ukraine followed his example having started to take a great interest in contemporary art”. PinchukArtCentre was established in Kiev in 2006, and since then it has been holding permanent expositions of works from the collection of either Victor Pinchuk or some other private collections. Within the limits of the last exhibition 24 photos and 18 video works by glorified artist Andreas Gursky from the fund of the German collector Julia Stoschek were displayed.

“For the last few years I purchased works by my favourite artists including Gursky, Koons, Kiefer and Murakami. Yes, I bought Hirst’s works at a last auction but I don’t want to name them. We are to wait till spring when I show them at a new exhibition”, − the collector informs.
