First “quarter of museums” to be made in St. Petersburg

St. Isaac’s Cathedral Memorial Museum

Next summer the first “quarter of museums” will be made in St. Petersburg. It will be an organized cultural-expocentre bordered by the quay of the River Moyka, Trud Square, Konnogvardejsky Boulevard and St. Isaac’s Square. The project provides the uniting of the whole group of historical monuments and museums, and also the elaboration of a complex of thematic excursion programs, some of which will start in October-November of this year. The St. Isaac’s Cathedral memorial estate, A. Popov Central Museum of Communication, the Museum of History of Religion and Vladimir Nabokov’s memorial flat will take part in the project. The funds of museums are supposed to be included in the program of the planned walking tours. Excursion programs on history of post town, St.-Petersburg of the 18th century, and also the stories of Nabokov family have already been prepared.

Students of the St.-Petersburg State University are the initiators of a new cultural project. They will work out the details of all parts of “quarter of museums”: excursion routes, design, economic problems. According to project’s developers it aims the salvation of several important problems including the attraction of tourists and the preservation of cultural-historical heritage of the city.
