Fine Jewellery in Monaco – the sales of one lot

Ring. Gold, diamond. Lot sold for €1 405 712. Artcurial. Fine Jewellery. Monte Carlo, July 29

On July, 29 and 30 the Artcurial French auction house held the large two-day jewelry auction sales in Hotel Hermitage. The sales totaled €4 371 717 which are rather of an average figures taking into account that more than thirds of this sum was made from sale of one lot.

The main highlight of the auctions is the exquisite golden ring decorated with a delightful pure diamond of 14,79 carat. It was sold for €1 405 712. This sale is considered a real record as the stone was estimated at €800 000-1 000 000. The magnificent diamond which was the center of fierce battle undoubtedly is worth attention. The stone which characteristics are confirmed by the certificate of Gemological Institute of the USA is of the perfect form, excellent colour (D) and has a very high factor of purity.

The other ring decorated with a yellow diamond of a thin rectangular facet was sold by auction for €175 966 having exceeded the estimate a little (€130 000-150 000). The ring was put up for the auction sales with the certificate of CCIP laboratory confirming the stone’s characteristics, its weight is 11,93 carat. It has a high VS1 factor of purity and a light golden shade.

Unfortunately the records were over and no of the three remained top lots were sold. Among them is one more highlight – a ring decorated with larger than above mentioned diamond which was estimated at €340 000-380 000. Moreover, the exquisite golden necklace Michele Della Valle executed in the form of a snake from gold with diamonds and rubies (estimate: €140 000-160 000), no less than the gold ring with a magnificent big ruby put up for the auction sales with an estimate of €300 000-400 000 were not sold.

The magnificent platinum necklace inlaid with 22 oval emeralds weighting 80 carat and many small diamonds was the third and the last lot sold for more than €100 000. Created in 1930 the necklace was sold for €174 000 hardly having exceeded the estimate.

Summing up, it is necessary to tell that Artcurial managed to sell only half of lots, thus the highest activity of auctioneers was noticed in a segment to €10 000.

Notably, Artcurial’s jewelry department is considered one of the most promising in France that in many respects is thanks to Englishman Stefan Gils who was at the head of it in 2005. The results of the last auction are considerable in general but not high taking into account the size and the level of the collection. It can be explained only with the fact that the auction sales were held in the end of the auction season.
