Damien Hirst is invited to academicians

D. Hirst. For the love of God. Bone, platinum, diamonds

British Royal academy of arts invited the artist Damien Hirst to academicians. Hirst who ten years ago was naming this respectable organization «old and pompous» should accept or reject the invitation till October, 2008.

Notably, price for works by Damien Hirst ranges from several tens of thousand to several millions dollars which makes him one of the most expensive artists of the present time. Hirst’s work «Physical Impossibility of Death in Mind of Someone Living» was sold for $12 000 000 to billionaire Stephen Cohen in 2004. Subsequently this work was donated to the New York Museum of Modern Art. Other work by this artist — the platinum skull incrusted with diamonds which nowadays is put up for sale for $100 000 000 is exhibited at White Cube gallery today.

Hirst became famous owing to gallery dealer Charles Saatchi who exposed his works for the first time within the limits of the «Young British artists» group project in the mid 1990s. Hirst also created advertising video for Blur group. In 1995 he received the prestigious Turner award.
