Vatican is for revival of religious art

View of Vatican

Vatican informed of its plans to start campaign for revival of religious art. The government of Catholic Church, the Holy See decided to search sponsors who would finance the creation of new works by modern masters. Vatican is going to place works of art in the churches made by modern architects. Richard Meier’s and Renzo Piano’s projects can be models of religious buildings.

Episcopal council on culture has already ordered some works of art on religious and spiritual subjects which will be displayed on Venetian biennale. Thus, Vatican will take part in the event of such kind for the first time. Notably, once Catholic Church dismissed biennale having named the event a «ruin of art in present epoch». Participation of Vatican in Venetian biennale next year will be financed by unknown English sponsor who wished not to reveal his name.

«We want to establish a dialogue between church and modern art» –told Gianfranko Ravazi, the President of Episcopal council. He also mentioned the name of British sculptor Anish Kapoor as an example of master who is essential for Vatican.
