Gene Shapiro to Hold Russian Auction on October 20, 2007

STAMFORD, U.S.A. – Yevgeny Shapiro, founder of Trinity Fine Arts auction house, a fine arts auction house in Connecticut, U.S.A. has announced that he has left Trinity to form his own auction house, Gene Shapiro Auctions, LLC., specializing in Russian art. The inaugural auction of Gene Shapiro Auctions, LLC will be held on October 20, 2007 in Stamford, Connecticut
Shapiro was born in St. Petersburg and emigrated at a young age to the U.S. He worked at Sotheby’s and as a private dealer before starting his own auction house. Shapiro is very positive about the market for Russian art in the U.S.A. He says, «I think now is an especially good time for international buyers to be buying Russian art in America. There are still many works here by important Russian artists that were bought by private American collectors long ago. And the weakness of the dollar, especially in comparison to the pound, makes buying in the United States much more attractive to the collector of Russian art».

Artworks in the auction will include pieces by Annenkov, Benois, Burliuk, Fechin, Gluckmann, Kolesnikoff, Korovin, Makovsky, Maliavin, Novikov, Popova, Pougny, Roginsky, Rukhin, Savitsky, Sitnikov, Steinberg, Stepanov, Westchiloff, Yakovlev, and many others. Detailed photos and information about each artwork to be offered can be seen at http://www.geneshapiro.com. Bidders can request condition reports by phone or email, and will be able to participate in the auction in person, by phone, by absentee bid, or live on the internet using ebayliveauctions.
