Modigliani in the State Pushkin Museum

On March 21, the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts launched an exhibition of works by famous Amedeo Modigliani. The important showcase features many key works of the artist, including portraits of his friends and mistresses, extremely rare landscapes and, of course, his legendary «Nudes», which are considered the highlights the artist’s oeuvre.

The display not only unveils Modigliani’s evolution as an artist and milestone events of his oeuvre, but also reveals the dramatic story of his life. Among the highlights of the exhibition are rare drawings connected with romantic relations of the artist and Russian poetess Anna Akhmatova and unique documents and photographs from the partisan archive of Amedeo Modigliani.

The comprehensive showcase comprises 27 drawings, over twenty paintings and sculpture «Woman’s Head», documents and biographic materials from the collection of Modigliani Institute (Paris–Rome). Among organizers of the event are Metropolitan Museum, MoMA, Solomon Guggenheim Museum (New York), Tate Gallery (London), Paris and Basel museums and others.
