Chagall in Rome

Exhibition «Chagall delle Meraviglie» (Magic Chagall) has been launched in Rome.

The important display was opened at Rome Complesso del Vittoriano on March 9 under the auspices of the President Italian Republic. «Chagall delle Meraviglie» comprises 157 Chagall’s works (oil paintings, gouaches, watercolors, book illustrations, sculptures) as well as pictures by his contemporaries – Russian artists Natalia Gontcharova, Mikhail Larionov, Kazimir Malevich and El Lisitsky.

The displayed showpieces has been lent by major art museums worldwide (Nice, Helsinki, Basel, Bern, Karakas), Pompidou Center in Paris, the State Russian museum in St. Petersburg (5 Chagall’s paintings), the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow (three pictures including the famous «Over the Town», which is the emblem of the showcase). One hundred and twenty works have come from private collections. The display is on view up to July 11, 2007.
