A UKRAINIAN AND HIS ARTISTIC CIRCLE

These days, agents of the Ukrainian State Security Agency took into custody a Ukrainian citizen trying to get 8 old paintings on the Ukrainian territory. The experts estimated the total value of the works amounting to 800,000 grivnas (about 4,200,000 rubles).

According to the words of the suspected smuggler, the paintings were purchased at an auction in a particular European country and comprised the works by unknown painters. However, it turned out that such famous artists as S. Zhukovsky, A. Stepanov, V. Makovsky, A. Kiselev and G. Klodt were the authors of the paintings. During the investigation, it was discovered that the man was a member of a criminal organization, which practiced the unlawful supply of cultural and historical treasures to Ukrainian collectors.
