Vintage Clothes, Textiles and Accessories at Doyle

The large-scale auction of vintage clothes, textiles, jewelry decorations and accessories took place on November 16 at Doyle New York. The important sale included pieces by world famous brands Galliano, Castelbajac, Gucci, Hermès, Versace as well as items from collections of celebrities: actress Kim Basinger, Marissa Berenson and Monaco Princess Grace.

The textiles section of the auction comprised 32 kilts, four covers and three exclusive textile pieces dating 1930s–1950s. The lots had come from the renowned collector Shelly Mehlman Dinhofer.

The sale also featured drawings by famed designer and artist Joe Eula. His drawing «Two Group Sketches» (estimate $300–500) fetched $650.

Among the highlights of the jewelry section were silver necklace by Pierre Cardin (estimate $5,000–6,000, sold for $5,000), Byzantine style cross by Chanel (estimate $1,500–1,800, remained unsold) and comprehensive collection of decorations from American designer Elsa Peretti (ivory bracelet realized $1,400, estimate $900–1,200).

Accessories section offered bidders variety of vintage purses: from the old and rare beaded child purse (1918, estimate $900–1,200, remained unsold) to the crocodile-leather bag by Hermes decorated with gold and diamonds. Estimated at $20,000–25,000, the lot made only $10,000.
