150th Anniversary of Architect Leontiy Benoit

The exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of outstanding Russian artist and architect Leontiy Benoit was launched in October at Catherine’s Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. The unique display features the most interesting and important Benoit’s works from the museum’s collection: from early student works of 1870s to unique sketches made in 1918–1921, when the Academy was going through its tough times.

Among the highlights of the showcase are architectural plans and sketches of the Court Chapel on the Moika River embankment, the Russian museum’s branch on the Griboedova Channel embankment, variants of the project of Peter and Paul’s Cathedral in Peterhof (erected after the project of N. Sultanov) and blueprints of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Warsaw (destroyed in 1921).
