Oeuvre of the Roerichs. Father and Son

From October 5 to December 4, 2006, the State Museum of Oriental Art holds the exhibition «The Roerichs. World of Orient» dedicated to the life and oeuvre of renowned Russian artists Nikolai Roerich and his son Svyatoslav. The display comprises about 200 paintings depicting mysterious and diverse oriental world: nature, temple architecture, sacred places, legends, beliefs and everyday life of inhabitants. In their striking pictures, the Russian artists unveiled the beauty of faraway lands – from steppes of Mongolia to picturesque Tibetan monasteries and amazing landscapes of Southern India and Ceylon.

Alongside remarkable paintings, the exhibition features rare archive documents and photographs relating to the life of the family during the emigration (1920s–1940s). Among the highlights of the display is the unique collection of postcards with reproductions of Nikolai Roerich’s works.
