Landscapes at a «Sovcom» auction

A Moscow art gallery «Sovcom» will hold its next auction on December 10. The sales will feature 128 lots. At least three of them may be called top-lots.

Lot No 18 – a 1911 painting «Early spring» by Stanislav Zhukovski, a student of well-known Russian artists V. Polenov and I. Levitan, signed and dated in lower right corner. The painting was examined by specialists of the Igor Grabar National Research and Restoration center. According to art experts, the important canvas is estimated to fetch from $100,000 to $110,000.

Lot No 58 – a 1964 painting «City morning» from a series «New city blocks» by a Moscow-based Soviet artist Yury Pimenov. Coming from a collection of «Sovcom» gallery the work also has an expertise certificate from the Igor Grabar National Research and Restoration center. Pre-sale estimate of the canvas is $28,000–30,000.

Among other highlights of the sales is an early landscape (circa 1890) by a renowned Russian Art Nouveau artist Constantin Somov, a member of a famed art group «Mir Iskusstva» («World of art»). Provenance of the painting runs back to a collection of the artist’s descendants. The authenticity of the work was testified by experts of the State Tretyakov gallery in Moscow. Estimate $23,000–25,000.
