Important hieratic objects to be auctioned in Bremen

A Thora breastplate. Silver, gilding. Master N.G. Moscow, ca. 1850. Estimate €7,000

A Bremen-based auction house Bolland & Marotz (Germany) will hold unusual sales dedicated to hieratic Judaic art pieces on December 10. The auction will feature eighteen unique items. The majority of works were manufactured by Russian (mostly Moscovian) silversmiths. A Hanukah silver lamp with a mark «N.G» was made in Moscow circa 1850 by an unknown master. The item is estimated at €5,500.

One of the most expensive lots at the sale is a spice tower by a Russian master Lubeck (estimate €14,000). The silver filigree spice tower dates 1844.

A Thora crown by Alexei Fedotov–Tukalov from Jaroslavl is expected to fetch €24,000. Though auctioneers do not possess information about the exact date of its creation, it is known that the master worked around 1774–1801. The height of the crown is 58 cm.

Among other highlights of the auction are two Thora pointers. The first one was made between 1896 and 1908 and has an author’s mark «A.C.» in it. That pointer was made of silver filigree and partly gilded. The second pointer was created by Pavel Sasikow Junior in 1869 in Moscow. Each of the Thora pointers is estimated at €2,500.

A Thora breastplate by a Moscow-based master (supposedly, the one who created the Hanukah lamp) has a pre-sale estimate €7,000.
The preview will take place through December 3–7 at the office of the auction house: Bolland & Marotz, Fedelhören 19, 28203 Bremen.
