Exhibition of illustrations from Mark Twain's classic stories

Mark Twain (1835–1910)

An interesting event, devoted to famous American writer Mark Twain (1835–1910) will take place in early September. Illustrations from Mark Twain’s classic stories will be displayed in the exhibition Norman Rockwell’s Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts. Cedarhurst Center for the Arts is located on Richview Road, Mt. Vernon, USA. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the show, which opens on September 3 and will run through November 6 in the Children’s Gallery of the Mitchell Museum. The event will also feature a free special performance «Catch the Twain!», which will open the exhibition.

Norman Rockwell produced his superb illustrations in 1935 for George Macy, publisher of the Heritage Press and Limited Editions Club books. Rockwell’s work was used in Macy’s editions of «The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn». The artist described the assignment as «the chance of a lifetime». In search for inspiration he visited a small town Hannibal in Missouri to gather authentic details for the pictures, which capture the mischievous spirits of Tom, Huck, Becky and Jim.
