«Autism Rocks at Any Speed» exhibition

A watercolor by Frank Flanders

«Autism Rocks at Any Speed: An Exhibition of Images Created by Autistic Artists» will be opened at SUNY Oswego’s Tyler Art Gallery on September 9. The exhibition will illustrate the creative outlet that many adults and children with autism have experienced through the visual arts.

«Autism Rocks at Any Speed» showcases work by six Oregon artists — Renee Curtiss, Melissa Dahl, Frank Flanders, Carl Kinney, Ryo Mastrogiovanni and Kwame Minta — who display their artistic skills through watercolors, magic markers, collage, and computer graphics. Five of the exhibited artists are adults, while 6-year-old Melissa Dahl created her computer-generated images last year. Frank Flanders, the most prolific artist of the group, prefers watercolor medium, producing elaborate farmhouse scenes to subtler, simpler images such as a slice of watermelon or a shoe.

The show will run through October 18.
