A new exhibition of works by internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Eiji Watanabe is opened through the end of August at the Glasshouse hotel in Greenside Place. The exhibition features more than 3000 hand-cut flora and fungi. Watanabe was invited to work in Edinburgh as artist-in-residence in collaboration with the College of Art.

Using a range of everyday materials, Watanabe says he is concerned with how the artist perceives and recognizes the «phenomena of the world». From a 3D version of the Metro newspaper to an installation displaying the entire contents of the city of Nagoya’s transport network lost and found department, Watanabe encourages viewers to re-engage with their surroundings and reconsider perceptions of the material object.
