«Wish You Were Here» textile exhibition

«Wish You Were Here» traveling textile exhibition from the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters is on view through August 13, at the Cornell Museum, 51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach. The event features nearly 50 small art quilts measuring two feet by three feet. The idea was to access the impressions of each artist about places near and far, visited or imagined.

The exhibition includes such treasures as «Honeymoon Hikes by JaNita Clairmont of Seattle, picturing tall redwood trees and a map of California, «New England Autumn», by Sarah Ann M. Smith of Camden, Maine, «On Sutton Lake» by Daphne W. John of Florence, Ore. In a quilt worthy of reproduction in a children’s book, «She Knows» by Bunny St. Clair of Colville, Wash., portrays a fairy observing a snow-draped landscape with birds, turtles, flowers and stars. The exhibition travels through next June, after which the works will be sold at the Pacific Northwest Quiltfest in August 2006.
