An Academy Award for «Outstanding Special Photographic Effects» presented to John P. Fulton for his work in the «Wonder Man», 1945
Estimate: $50,000-70,000

Christie’s bi-annual auction of «Film and Entertainment Memorabilia Including Vintage Film Posters» will take place in New York on June 16. The event features props from cult classic movies and recent blockbusters, personal things of famous actors and more than 80 vintage posters.

The highlights of the sales include a bullwhip used in «Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom» (estimate: $8,000-12,000), signed by Harrison Ford, a Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet prototype (estimate: $4,000-6,000) and extremely rare light saber, made by a prop master at «Industrial Light and Magic» (estimate: $8,000-12,000). Other top lots are an Oscar statuette awarded to the acclaimed special effects pioneer John P. Fulton, for «Outstanding Special Photographic Effects» in the «Wonder Man», 1945 (estimate: $50,000-70,000), and a Golden Globe awarded to Steve McQueen for «World Film Favorite», 1969 (estimate: $10,000-15,000).

Among the selection of personal ephemeral from Hollywood legends we can’t but mention an early letter from Marilyn Monroe to her sister Bernice. Bearing the very rare signature «Norma Jeanne», the letter is estimated to fetch $20,000-30,000. Nearly 30 lots of the posters sale are devoted to animation. The obvious top lot of this collection is a poster for «Fantasia», 1940, which depicts Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice (estimate: $10,000-15,000).
