Extraordinary items belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte on sale

The Napoleon’s chamber pot. Ceramics. Estimate £1,200-1,500

Napoleon’s chamber pot and a pair of his boot hooks go under the hammer in Bonhams’ Sale of Nelson and the Royal Navy 1750-1815 on July 5th auction at 101 New Bond Street, London. The event marks the bi-centenary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

The chamber pot for the ex-emperor of France was produced by the prominent 19th century cabinet-maker George Bullock. He was commissioned to make some furniture and personal effects for Napoleon Bonaparte while the latter was in exile on the British island of St Helena.

However the pot never reached Napoleon as the Prince Regent or one of his close associates objected to the design of a laurel wreath depicted around the rim.

The item is expected to fetch £1,200-1,500.
