Shoes of the Chinese world record hurdler Liu Xiang will be auctioned on June 5 with bids expected to start at 10 million yuan (1.2 million dollars). Independent buyers have already offered 13 million yuan for the red, gold and white Nike “Zoom Super Fly G5” shoes.

Liu wore those shoes in his Athens Olympic gold medal-winning performance. In Athens Lui set the 12.91 second 110 meter world record. He became the first male Chinese to win an Olympic gold medal in a sprint event.

The charity auction is organized by the Shanghai Sports Bureau, the non-profit Shanghai Hope Project and the Shanghai Benevolent Fund.
