The Third antique salon in Saint-Petersburg

From 21 to 26 of May 2002 Moscow company “Expo-park. Exhibition projects” held the Third antique salon in Saint-Petersburg. As before, its exposition took place in the Marble hall of Russian ethnographic museum.

From this year the Salon in Petersburg can be considered annual, although originally it was planned as a biennial event. In the beginning of June 2003 the company plans to hold the IV Antique salon, devoted to the tricentenary of Saint-Petersburg.

The Marble hall accepted 28 exhibitors, the majority of which consisted of antique galleries and salons from Petersburg, there were only 2 participants from Moscow. Within the framework of the Salon “Expo-park” together with the company “Pavlovsk-media” presented a non-commercial project – exhibition “Jewelry art of modern age. Collection of A.G.Tulchin”. The exhibition comprised jewelry art of a very high level and was a success among the visitors.

On the 25th of May an auction of art was first held for the whole history of both Moscow and Petersburg Antique salons. It was called “Art of Russia, Western Europe and East of XVI-XX centuries”. Its initiators – Petersburg auction house – have exhibited 208 lots, including icons, works of pictorial and graphic art, items of applied decorative art of bronze, porcelain, silver, enamel, glass. The number of sales amounted about 30%, which auction organizators estimated as quite satisfactory for the first time.

Virtual almanac “Russian Antique” was also among the participants of the exhibition. Its special correspondent made everyday reports, which were immediately delivered to the site. In particular the reports included reviews of exhibitions of some participants of the Antique salon and replies of antiquaries to the questions concerning vexed problems of the Russian antique market of today. In future “Russian Antique” also intends to participate in Antique salons and to make similar reports from the place.
